About This Blog

I intend to use this blog to share my thoughts, impressions, and opinions regarding psychology, hypnosis, geeky subjects, LGBTQ issues, the process of becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist, and so on. I hope to continue to use this space beyond my internship and into my career as a licensed therapist.

That being the case, the level of confidence with which I speak on certain topics may (hopefully) increase over time, but you have my permission to shout if the blog’s voice ever becomes stodgy and boring. Here, I don’t want to be obscure, talk over anyone’s head, or be overly technical. I aim to keep things conversational and even lighthearted…maybe sometimes ranty.

It’s part of my personality to joke around or slip in a little snark, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I’m not treating the subject with utmost seriousness. If you’re ever in doubt, feel free to ask. I encourage comments; let’s converse! If you have a different take on an article I reference or want to offer an anecdote, please do. Just please remember to keep it polite; outright arguments, attacks, or insults against me or other commenters will get your comment deleted. I rarely delete comments for any reason, but I reserve the right to do so – or to edit your comment for typos. (Rule 1: EditorBrain never shuts off.)

See you soon!

About the name

I owe thanks to my mother for helping me brainstorm the name “Somewhere in Mind” after I discovered all my initial ideas had already been registered (often by people who did so years ago and never posted anything). To me, the name has become a multi-faceted reference, beginning with the film Somewhere in Time – a personal favorite almost as old as I and born in the same state, and a film that I initially watched solely because it got caught in my once-regular DVR search for the letters “hypn” (looking for media portrayals of hypnosis). Other facets are that psychology has to do with the mind, this blog is about my personal thoughts (no endorsement by or necessarily of any employer or others), etc.
